Diwali is on 8 November

Six festive days back to back, and then wedding season starts. One week of planning now saves a very long wait later.

Karwa Chauth is behind us. What is ahead, in order: Dhanteras on Friday 6 November, Choti Diwali on Saturday the 7th, Diwali itself on Sunday 8 November, Govardhan Puja on Tuesday the 10th and Bhai Dooj on Wednesday the 11th.

That is a Friday-to-Wednesday run of days where people want to look put together, with a weekend sitting right in the middle of it. Every salon in Sector 31 will be full on the 6th and 7th. So the useful question is not what to book — it is which week to book it in.

This week, 1 to 5 November

Everything that needs time, or that you would rather not do in a rush:

  • Colour and root touch-up. Colour done now has a week to settle, and you are not sitting in a chair for two hours on Dhanteras morning.
  • Facials and clean-ups. Skin looks its best two to three days after a facial, not the same evening. A facial on the 4th or 5th is timed well for Diwali on the 8th.
  • De-tan. Face, arms, back — whatever the outfit calls for. This takes more than one sitting to show, so starting it the day before is wasted money.
  • Any hair treatment. Keratin, smoothening, botox, nanoplastia, Olaplex. These are two-to-four-hour appointments. They do not fit into festive week.

Three to four days ahead, 4 to 5 November

Waxing and threading. Skin needs a day or two to settle, so the 4th and 5th are better than the 6th, and much better than the morning of.

Nail extensions and gel polish also belong here. They will last comfortably through the whole festive run and into any wedding you are attending later in the month.

The festive days themselves

Keep these for the quick things: blow-dry, ironing or tongs, a hair-do, eye makeup, party makeup, a dress-up and drape. These are the appointments that genuinely make sense on the day, and they are short enough that we can fit several in.

If you want a slot on the 6th, 7th or 8th, book it this week. Those three days are the ones that close first, and the morning slots go before the evening ones.

Then it is wedding season

Mid-November through February is wedding season in Gurugram, and the two overlap immediately — plenty of people have Diwali at home and a wedding to attend ten days later. If you are a guest at a wedding this month, the colour you do this week covers both. If you are the bride, or the mother of one, the planning horizon is different and longer; we wrote about that in the 8-week plan before a wedding.

One tip worth more than the rest

Come on a weekday morning. Monday to Friday, 11 am to 5 pm, is the quietest the salon gets — same stylists, same treatments, no queue. Through festive and wedding season that window is the single best thing you can do for your own time.

To book, message us on WhatsApp or call +91-9818891294. We are at SCO 35, First Floor, HUDA Market, Sector 31, above Bandhan Bank — full details here.

A happy Diwali from all of us at Glitz Salon Sector 31.
